This is a statue in Winnipeg of Taras Shevchenko. It's on the grounds of the legislature there.
It's there to commemorate the internment of thousands of Ukranian and other Eastern Europeans by Canada during the first world war. I was aware of the Japanese internment camps from WWII but, until I read the inscription on the statue, I hadn't known there were others.
