Robson Square Winter

Robson Square Winter

Update: I guess this shot was taken before 2001 because that's when the rink was closed due to city lameness. Now, with the help of a corporate sponsor, we have logo-emblazoned city lameness. Happy skating!

This is one of those photos that works really well in colour or black and white. I'll post the colour version at a later date (I'm milking the few christmas season shots that I have) but today, this one gets the nod.

The little dome is part of the cover for the tiny ice rink that is under Robson Street and offers free skating when it's cold enough. I know that they didn't have it operational last year but I'm not sure if they're going to open it this year. The snow that we had last week is long gone and we're back to traditional Vancouver december weather: +8℃ and raining. For those of you in the rest of Canada laughing at the stereotype, rainy decembers also offer things like this, which I'll take any day over -20℃ and clear.

Fuji Velvia 100, scanned, de-saturated, sharpened in Photoshop.
