The Beach

The Beach

secret grafic

We were invited to go to a wedding on a small island off the north coast of Germany, not far from Denmark, called Amrum. We had a great time. Both the wedding and the island were really, really cool. The wedding was casual and relaxing - unlike most weddings. The island, while a bit cool in the evenings and windy, has huge beaches with beautiful, white sand. From what I understand, they're some of the largest beaches in Europe.

The chair you see here is a pretty traditional beach chair called a strandkorb which shelters you a bit from the sun and wind. They also lean back and have footrests so you can kick back. Very cool. We had about ten of them in a circle so everyone could sit and talk, nap or just hang out. The circle was also really good for creating a bit of a shelter from the ever-present wind. It should come as no shock that an island in the North Sea is windy, and it is. Nicely so, most of the time, but sometimes a little cold.

I met a lot of really cool people at the wedding and, I have to say, it was definitely one of the best that I've been to. The people were great, the ceremony short (and in truth, we missed that because our ferry arrived with not enough time to bike, yes bike, there. The ceremony was only about a half hour anyway), the location was fantastic and the atmosphere was one of enjoyment and relaxation.

Absolutely perfect. Thank you Freddy and Uta and everyone else for a great time.

About the photo, I was torn on whether to post the colour version or black and white version. In the end I chose the black & white one but a colour version is available if you hover over the red "+" symbol that is under the image title.
