Nicht Gut Genug

Nicht Gut Genug

I've noticed recently that people have been posting about the Miniatur-Wunderland in Hamburg and so I thought I'd put up another shot that I took there last spring. The other photo from there that I posted was of the little airport which is absolutely my favourite part but there are so many other really cool displays there.

This photo is of the model Volksparkstadion which is the home of Hamburger SC. The real stadium holds about 50,000 people and I'm not sure how many people are packed into the model but it's fair to say that it's more than I would want to assemble. The sign that you can see - and where I got the title for the photo - says "maybe not good enough for this league".

It's not the main part of the photo, but I think what I like most is the blurred lights in the background. They really look like city lights fading into the distance. The fake tilt shift was, like the last photo, not faked at all but still not done with an expensive tilt shift lens. I used a 50mm, 1.8 wide open and the small size of the model makes the tilt shift effect. It's cheating, but then again, it's not cheating. It's certainly not just a Photoshop job.

The place is huge and the photographic possibilities are endless with all of the different dioramas. I could spend endless amounts of time checking out and trying to capture all of the little details. If you get the chance, I really recommend going. But get there early or late, the middle of the day is totally busy and even though I said the place is huge, almost all of the space is taken up with the models.
